IPL for Redness, Pigmentation & Sun Damage

Clearer, more even-looking skin with IPL treatment for visible redness, sun spots, pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Redness, brown spots and uneven skin tone can become more noticeable over time, particularly following repeated sun exposure. You may notice individual sun spots or freckles, persistent facial redness, or a combination of different colors that makes your complexion look less even.

At One Point Six Aesthetics in Santa Cruz, we use Iris Dye-VL, an IPL technology within the Alma Harmony laser and light platform, to target unwanted red and brown pigmentation within the skin.

Rather than expecting you to know which technology you need, we start by assessing what is creating the visible color. Treatment can then be tailored to the pigmentation, redness or vascular changes we can see in your skin.

IPL for Clearer, More Even-Looking Skin

IPL can be used to address several common concerns involving unwanted red or brown color in the skin, including:

  • Sun spots

  • Brown spots

  • Freckles

  • Uneven pigmentation

  • Facial redness

  • Rosacea

  • Visible vascular lesions

  • Uneven skin tone

Some patients have one dominant concern, such as persistent redness across the cheeks. Others notice a combination of sun spots, freckles and uneven tone developing over time.

Your consultation allows us to identify what is causing the visible discoloration and determine whether IPL is the right approach for your skin.

How Does IPL Work?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It uses controlled pulses of light to target specific colors within the skin.

For brown pigmentation, the light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment responsible for the unwanted color. When treating redness and vascular concerns, the light targets blood vessels contributing to the visible redness.

The treated pigment or vessels are then gradually processed by the body, allowing the unwanted color to become less noticeable over time.

At One Point Six Aesthetics, Iris Dye-VL allows us to tailor treatment according to what we see in your skin. You do not need to know which settings or type of light treatment you require before your appointment. That is determined as part of your assessment.

What Are the Benefits of IPL?

IPL can help to:

  • Reduce the appearance of sun spots and brown pigmentation

  • Improve visible facial redness

  • Reduce the appearance of freckles

  • Target appropriate vascular concerns

  • Create a clearer, more even-looking skin tone

  • Improve visible discoloration associated with sun exposure

Because IPL targets unwanted color rather than simply treating the surface of the skin, it can be particularly useful when pigmentation or redness is making the complexion appear uneven.
