Why September Is Prime Tox Month: Daxxify, Botox and Dysport
September has a natural sense of reset. Summer schedules settle down, vacations wind up, and attention starts turning to fall events, family gatherings and the holiday season. For many patients, it is also a practical time to reassess their neuromodulator treatment.
At One Point Six Aesthetics in Santa Cruz, we use Daxxify, Botox and Dysport to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity and soften expression lines while preserving a natural-looking result.
September works particularly well because there is time for treatment to take effect and settle before the busiest part of the holiday season. For patients who already have neuromodulator treatments, it can also be a useful point to review what has worked previously and whether their treatment plan still suits their facial movement and goals.
The important part is not simply deciding that it is “tox time.” It is understanding what you want to treat and which approach makes sense for your face.
What Are Neuromodulators and How Do They Work?
Neuromodulators are injectable treatments that temporarily reduce communication between nerves and selected muscles.
Consider what happens when you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile. The muscles beneath the skin repeatedly contract, causing the skin above them to fold. Over time, these repeated expressions can contribute to lines becoming more noticeable, first during movement and eventually when the face is resting.
By carefully reducing activity in selected muscles, neuromodulators can soften these dynamic lines.
Daxxify, Botox and Dysport are all neuromodulators based on botulinum toxin type A, but they are different formulations. This means choosing between them is not simply about picking the most familiar name.
We also need to consider the treatment area, your muscle strength, previous experience with neuromodulators and the result you want.
Some patients want a very subtle softening with plenty of movement remaining. Others have stronger muscles or more established expression lines. The dose and placement should reflect the individual face rather than following the same injection pattern for everyone.
What Can Daxxify, Botox and Dysport Treat?
Neuromodulators are probably best known for treating expression lines in the upper face, including:
Forehead lines
Frown lines between the eyebrows
Crow's feet around the eyes
Their use can extend beyond these familiar areas.
At One Point Six Aesthetics, neuromodulators may also be considered for concerns such as platysmal neck bands, jawline tension, gummy smiles, downturned corners of the mouth, chin dimpling, facial asymmetry, enlarged masseter muscles, jaw clenching and teeth grinding.
Neuromodulators can also be used to address excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis.
What matters is identifying whether muscle activity is actually contributing to the concern. Not every line, change in facial shape or sign of aging is something that should be treated with a neuromodulator.
Daxxify vs Botox vs Dysport: What Is the Difference?
Why Is September a Good Time for Neuromodulator Treatment?
September gives you something that can be difficult to find later in the year: time.
Neuromodulators do not produce their complete effect immediately after treatment. Changes develop gradually, so scheduling well ahead of an important occasion is generally preferable to leaving treatment until the last minute.
For someone considering treatment ahead of fall gatherings or the holiday season, September provides a useful window for results to develop without trying to coordinate treatment immediately before photographs, travel or events.
It can also make sense for established patients whose previous treatment is beginning to wear off.
Rather than automatically repeating the same dose and injection pattern, we can reassess how much movement has returned and whether your priorities have changed.
When Should You Start Botox, Daxxify or Dysport?
There is no particular age at which everyone should begin neuromodulator treatment.
At One Point Six Aesthetics, we treat what we see rather than treating according to a birthday.
For some younger patients, the concern may be strong repetitive movement and early dynamic lines. A conservative approach may be appropriate if those lines are becoming bothersome.
For someone with more established wrinkles, we need to look more closely at whether the line appears only during facial movement or remains visible when the face is relaxed.
Neuromodulators address the muscular component of these lines. If a crease has become established at rest, reducing repeated folding may help soften its appearance over time, but the quality of the skin itself may also need to be considered.
That distinction prevents us from expecting a neuromodulator to correct something it was not designed to treat.
Can You Combine Neuromodulators With Skin Treatments?
Daxxify, Botox and Dysport address muscle activity, but they do not replace facial volume, resurface sun-damaged skin or stimulate collagen in the same way as treatments designed for those concerns.
At One Point Six Aesthetics, neuromodulators may form part of a wider treatment plan depending on what we are trying to improve:
Harmony laser treatments: May be considered for sun-related pigmentation while neuromodulators address expression lines and excessive muscle movement.
Dermal fillers: May be more appropriate where facial volume loss is contributing to changes in facial contour.
Sculptra or Radiesse: Can be considered when collagen stimulation is a priority.
Microneedling: Can help improve skin texture and support collagen production.
PRF and medical-grade skincare: May also form part of a wider plan depending on the individual concern.
For example, treating forehead movement will not remove sun-related pigmentation. Equally, adding more neuromodulator will not replace facial volume that has been lost over time.
This is where treatment stacking can be useful. It does not mean having as many treatments as possible. It means identifying the different factors contributing to what you see and treating each appropriately.
What Is Microtox and How Is It Different From Traditional Neuromodulator Treatment?
Traditional neuromodulator treatment involves strategically placing product to influence selected muscles. Microtox takes a different approach, using tiny microdroplets administered more superficially into the upper layers of the skin.
At One Point Six Aesthetics, Microtox may be considered for concerns including enlarged-looking pores, facial flushing, rosacea-prone skin, crepey skin and mild laxity. This can make it an interesting option when a patient's concern extends beyond expression lines to the overall appearance of the skin. It does not replace medical-grade skincare, laser treatments or microneedling. Instead, it can provide another option when deciding which treatment or combination is most appropriate.
Is September the Right Time to Refresh Your Tox?
If your previous neuromodulator treatment is beginning to wear off, September can be a useful time to reassess. It also gives first-time patients time to see how their face responds before the holiday season.
If you are considering more than one treatment, starting the conversation in September gives us time to decide what should be addressed first and how different treatments should be spaced.
The aim is to plan treatment around your face and your schedule rather than trying to fit everything in immediately before an event.
FAQs About Daxxify, Botox and Dysport
Is Daxxify the same as Botox?
No. Daxxify and Botox are both botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators, but they are different products with different formulations. Daxxify uses a peptide-based formulation and is known for the potential for longer-lasting results in some patients.
Does Daxxify last longer than Botox or Dysport?
Daxxify has been developed as a longer-lasting neuromodulator, although individual treatment duration varies. How long your results last can depend on factors including the treatment area, muscle activity and your individual response.
Can I switch between Daxxify, Botox and Dysport?
Potentially. Previous use of one neuromodulator does not necessarily mean you need to continue with the same product indefinitely. Your previous response and treatment goals can be considered when deciding which option is appropriate.
Can men have neuromodulator treatments?
Yes. Neuromodulators can be used in both men and women. Treatment is based on individual anatomy and muscle activity, and stronger facial musculature may influence the treatment plan and dosing.
Can neuromodulators help with jaw clenching and teeth grinding?
Neuromodulators can be placed into the masseter muscles where appropriate to reduce excessive muscle activity associated with jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Treatment should be tailored to the size and strength of the muscles and the individual concern.
